Homework Club: There is an adult who supervises and
assists children who need
assistance with their classroom homework. It gives them a quiet place to
read, work and finish their homework assignments.
AR Club: Reading books is the objective of this
class. Each student must read a book and under the supervision of the
Program Coordinator, is expected to test on the comprehension of the
material read. Their reading scores are automatically entered into a
database.
Read-a-Loud: The children listen as a teacher reads
a story to them. In this time, they may do an activity that relates to the
story.
Computer Club: Children that participate are able
to learn new areas of computer technology, whether it is surfing the website
for activities, learning how to use power point, cutting & pasting, etc.
There is so much to be learned in this one area.
Apache Culture: There are two (2) groups of
students in this club. The first half of the students are those that are
active participants of the school's Apache Crown Dance group. The boys
learn the traditional dance of the Mountain Spirit dancers and are usually
invited to perform for others in the community. The girls also dance as
well as learning how to sew a traditional camp dress, make beaded items or
learn how to make the traditional foods of our area.
The second half of the students learn about their culture and history
through listening to stories or discussing the ways of their elders. There
are books to be read of other cultures of Native Americans or learning by
doing hands-on acitvities. These activities include beadwork, making
leather pouches, and other crafts.

The after school schedule remains in effect until the end of the 2005-2006
school year. Next year, the schedule may change and/or be replaced. The
objective is to incorporate literacy into all areas of the program.
